R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum celebrates twenty-eight years of Villains and Vittles Dinner Theatre Productions. This season the Village is proud to present on the stage of the SASCU Amphitheatre "That's Not Shakespeare!"
Jessie Herald was six years old when she moved to Bonnie Brae in 1906. She lived the rest of her 88 years in that location. Today we know that homestead as HERALD Provincial Park.
When Jessie was in her seventies, she sold the 160-acre family parcel for a fraction of its actual value to the Provincial Government on the following conditions, that it is turned into a park, and she is allowed to retain one acre of land with her house and her barn.
Throughout the years, there have been many visitors, none more unique than the one you will meet in "That's Not Shakespeare!". Jessie unknowingly invites William Shakespeare to Bonny Brae when she stumbles over a line in Sonnet 55.
Whatever the season, Jessie's generosity created wonderful Shuswap moments for all of her visitors.
Our talented cast of "That's Not Shakespeare!" is Natalie Kearl as the Stage Manager and Jessie Herald, Glitter Esquivias as Mary, Griffin Webber as William Shakespeare and Ashley Koop as the Assistant Stage Manager and Edith. Accompanying our cast on the piano is Rydell Scott.
Peter Blacklock local playwright, is back for his twelfth season as writer and director. Peter fills his plays with original musical scores and humorous storytelling that will whisk you away to not-so-far-off places while sharing our history and a little Shakespeare along the way.
Opening night is July 3, with shows every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings in July and August and a special matinee performance on Thursday, August 25.
Check-in starts at 5:00 pm. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner with all the pioneer fixings served from the Sprig of Heather restaurant. Dessert will follow the play with homemade rhubarb crisp and ice cream. Adults are $35.00, seniors $32.50, children five to twelve are $15.00 and children four and under are FREE. Reservations are a must!
