Mission and Mandate of R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum

R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum, a registered not-for-profit charitable organization, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of Salmon Arm and its surrounding communities. Established in 1963 on the traditional territories of the Secwepemc People, the Village offers a vibrant connection to the past through diverse programs, exhibits, and events.

Located on 40 acres of picturesque farmland on Salmon Arm's east side, the Village is a leading tourism destination in the Shuswap region, drawing over 20,000 visitors annually. The site features 24 historic buildings, 30 exhibits, the 1910 Haney House, the Ernie Doe Archives Room, and the Montebello building—a Canada 150 project showcasing Salmon Arm's history. Additional highlights include a Children's Museum, Outdoor Discovery Area, captivating gardens, the Sprig of Heather restaurant, an amphitheatre, a gift shop, and 2.3 km of trails winding through natural woodlands and climate zones along Canoe Creek.

R.J. Haney Heritage Village reflects the region's agricultural and natural histories, offering immersive and educational experiences highlighting the community's growth and connection to the land. Open from mid-May to September, the Village invites visitors to engage in guided tours, educational programs, archival research, and events like live theatre performances. Programs such as these, alongside hosting private celebrations, connect guests to the region's vibrant culture and heritage.

Mission: We connect people to where we are by engaging with our history.

Vision: To be the best heritage and cultural destination in the BC Interior.

Core Values:

  • Legacy: Making a difference today with tomorrow in mind.
  • Quality: Striving for excellence.
  • Teamwork: Fostering an inclusive and cohesive team.
  • Engage: Building connections with our community and visitors.
  • Enhance: Innovating to develop and maintain facilities.
  • Evolve: Adopting best practices to ensure relevance and proficiency.

The Salmon Arm Museum and Heritage Association is grateful to the  Secwepemc First Nation, on whose traditional territory we live, work, and play.
