Front St. Grocery & Confectionery

Work at R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum is delightful. It changes with the seasons. Each spring and summer we work on dioramas and exhibits. Work on archival collections takes place in the winter when there just seems to be more time to think about the the paper history entrusted into our care. Front Street Grocery & Confectionery is a one-of-a kind archival collection acquired that has a special connection to a museum board member - the late Florrie Farmer.

A step in the right direction

Curator Tracey Kutschker wanted to do something locally to recognize the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation . The day is one of the Commission's 94 Calls to Action. The day is to honour the survivors of residential school system, their families and communities. The day also honoured and remembered the 215 children who died in care at the Kamloops Residential School.

When the horrific news of the confirmation of 215 children’s graves on the grounds of the former Residential School in Kamloops broke last June, the board and staff at R.J. Two collections made their way into the archives this summer amid fires, smoke filled skies, and COVID gathering restrictions. Baskets come home

A collection of large cedar root baskets came to us at R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum. The Secwepemc baskets were created for sale in our community. The donor, Delta Saddler, explained that her parents, Max and Twink Ladner, had bought them when they lived in Salmon Arm. The baskets had been in their Vernon home for years.
